Sharers/ Hoarders
This reminds me of a conversation I had the other night about clinics and sharing of musical knowledge.

From the Creative Passionate Users blog
It's a great article for everyone who thinks they have to horde their ideas in order to profit from them.

I've never understood the protectionism exhibited by some musicians over their 'ideas' and 'tricks' - that which can actually be copied in creative terms (melodies) are protected by copyright anyway, and I can't even begin to imagine what kind of moron thinks that they are going to sell a whole load of records based on a 'trick' - reminds me of those Adrian whassisname adverts in Bass Player in the early 1990s, proclaiming him 'the world's fastest bassist' as though that were a great sales pitch... hmmmm.
Share the love, share the knowledge and the world will end up with better music. It can only be a good thing.

That's what was so inspiring about your 05 masterclass - I was shocked by how open and willing to share you were.
I half excpectd you to play a piece and then dance around all the questions about HOW you did it - but no - you showed us.
Everyone walked out of your class with the solid knowledge of how to do loop-centered solo bass.
I don't see your career suffering because of it.
In fact - I think it wins you fans.

I remember you asking the question about why I gave away so many 'secrets' or words to that effect - I don't think I'd even considered it in those terms until that point. I just don't see the magic of what I do being in the technology. The tech enables the music, but it isn't the music.
I could muck around for ever with a Hyperbass and I'm still not going to sound like Michael even if I tried... :o)
