String thing
I haven't talked to many Bass players who really like the sound and feel of brand new, right out of the package strings. I have a set on the MTD right now that is about 2 months old and I friggin LOVE IT.
Here's a question Mr. String manufacturer. If they can make BRAND NEW jeans that look like I pulled them of the rejct pile at goodwill - how come you can't make NEW strings that sound and feel like they're 2 months old?
I don't care who steals this idea - I really just want it to happen. So . . . go . . . make it happen.
word.

I gotta be honest... I'm right there with you. Brand-new strings (roundwounds, at least) are just too zingy for me. After about a month of playing they start to come into their own.
Of course I use serisouly cheap strings.

I keep my flats on for over a year at a time, and I quite like the change in tone. It means that my bass tone has 'seasons' throughout the year, which is a lovely metaphor.

My opinion differs in that I love the brand new strings sound. To each his own.

hmmmmm...i love the sound of new strings for tapping, especially through a good set-up so you can play lightly. but, i agree, they can sound a bit harsh for fingerstyle, round sounding stuff. give em a week.
would it be possible to make 'broken in' strings? the sound deadening is mostly down to deposits of crap on the strings and the metal wearing slightly, the latter is an addressable problem, but the former? i don't think i'd like someone elses dead skin on my strings!
