Outre on iTunes - but don't buy it there!

Overall - I like the iTunes music store.

In the past few years I've dumped WAY more money into buying music on there than I have on physical CDs.

I don't buy physical CDs anymore unless I HAVE to (cough, king crimson/tool cough, cough)

But mostly- iTunes is my default place to sample music that's new to me.

It's easy.

Someone tells me I need to hear _______ I go to iTunes, type in the name - it shows up - I listen to :30 clips and then decide if :

A.) I like it enough to download it for $9.99
B.) Like it but realize it's probably not worth the $9.99
So I head off to find a few tracks on p2p for free.

C.) Don't like it enough to buy it or even spend time trying to steal it.

I suspect many people use iTunes in this way. It's a very convenient way to sample stuff.

Ok - so why am I telling you not to buy Outre on iTunes?

Because you're already way hipper than that.

Seriously - if you're reading this you probably already know that Outre is out - that you can get the CD at CD Baby

and that a much better value digital download of Outre is available at TRADEBIT.

No DRM, higher quality 192kbps files - it's only $7.00 and all that money goes to me!

So why even bother having my music on iTunes?

For all the peeps who may hear my name - not knowing anything about me and then try to check me out on iTunes.

The point is to be discoverable.

There's almost no MASS market anymore.

It's why the major labels in the US are cratering.

No 1 appearance on a TV show or radio show can launch careers. Even pounding shit into the ground with carpet bomb marketing won't guarantee a hit like it used to.

Who played on Leno last night? Who knows?

My best hope at the very very indie, DIY, no marketing budget level I'm at is to be as easy to find as possible.

So that if someone does hear about me - and wants to check me out - I'm where they're most likely to be looking. Right now that's iTunes.

So - OUTRE IS ON ITUNES

But don't buy it there if you don't have to.
