I Need Your Help
Thanks and props to you for reading & subscribing to the Beautiful Bass Blog.
I hope you get something out of this space - inspiration, a laugh, a good link or two, things to think about & things to listen to. And that's why I need your help.
This space has become a bit of a catch-all for anything that interests me without too much regard if it interests anyone else. Since this is a PERSONAL blog I suppose that could be excused.
But I'd like to change that.
As I consider a re-design of this site - I want to make sure I'm not just putting new colors on it. I want to make sure it has a purpose. And serves that purpose.
I'm thinking maybe this blog isn't really why you would come here. . . . that maybe it takes focus away from my music. I don't know. Maybe the blog is a good idea - but it should focus on certain kinds of topics? Maybe it should just be a music player and a gig listing?
I'm curious what you guys think.
If you have an opinion could you please take a few seconds to drop a note in the comments - or in my e-mail about what you'd like to see happening in this space?
This site WILL be redesigned. And I WILL listen to your input & ideas. Cuz you guys rule!
What should Beautiful-Bass.com be?

Hey Jeff! Be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water! I can sympathize with your internet-y discontent... But what's wrong with a catch-all, anyway? I think blogs like yours help shed light on the totality of the creative process/journey.

I very much enjoy talking about and illustrating the creative process Gustaf!
I'm sure that will always be a part of what happens here.

As gustaf has said, some of us just enjoy an insight into what drives an artist. That can take many forms.
I think the mix is pretty good so far. I read the blog via Google Reader and it takes a second to skip past a post that doesn't look interesting and the same to make sure it is marked for me to come back to and digest. If you started posting dozens of times a day about the health of your cat then I might lose interest.
If some people just want gig listings, or whatever, then maybe you could have a dedicated feed for that.

thanks steve!
I think in 2 years I've only managed 1 cat post! ;)
but thats the type of thing I want to guard against - irrelevant postings.

Have you thought about segmenting your blog? Perhaps different blogs with different focuses? One for studio updates, one for music business rants, one for detritus and ephemera ... or cats?
Feel free to ping me if you want to talk a bit more in depth about web stuff. I work as an associate creative director at a digital communications/services agency... so I know just enough to get myself in all sorts of trouble!

I read and really enjoy all your posts in your blog. All is interesting, although I don't agree on everything. Sometimes it seems you preach a little bit too much about the music biz, but that's ok, it's your site. But I really feel that the focus on your music wa somewhat lost-until the video podcasts arrived. it looks like the other sections in this site are not updated, just the blog. Anyway, I really enjoy and admire your music and your approach. Sorry if my bad English leads to misunderstandings.

solid points Liberty Citizen. Thank you!
I have neglected the rest of the site.
Part of the re-vamp i'm imagining will be to make sure every page or link actually means something and is up to date.
I also see a return to focus on music, music making, inspiration and the creative process.
I have some other ideas for vehicles to opine/express on the rest of existence!
