Progressive Bulgarian Wedding Music

This is . . . . uh . . . . . amazing.

Stick with it. About halfway, after the woman sings they shred over some wacky time signatures and tempo changes. It's pretty awesome. In that non-western music kinda way.

Ivo Papazov and his Wedding Band

and yes - I do think that's David Sanborn doing the intro. His "do" leads me to think this is 1980s.

Great find, Jeff.

I actually saw this on TV when it aired. If I remember correctly, it was on a show hosted by Sandborn called "Night Music". Great show... they'd showcase all sorts of obscure music... obviously, really late at night. Didn't last very long, though.

Didn't last? I wonder why. ;)

Wow, this are ripping freakin lines. Malmsteen has nothing on these guys! LOL

GOD I loved this show. Hosted by Sanborn w/Hiram Bullock as musical director. A typical show might have Nona Hendryx, Adrian Belew, Pops Staples and Elliot Sharp. Or you might get The Residents dancing backup for Conway Twitty. Or Loudon Wainright playing with Pere Ubu.

It was produced by Broadway Video if I recall correctly. Given the price of music rights I can't imagine these will ever be released on DVD, but I keep hoping.

Ivo was AWESOME on that show, as was his bizarre woodsman-from-Peter-And-The-Wolf interstitial.

Aha.

Sure enough, show 203 was the Nona/Adrian/Elliot/Pops show, and the Ivo episode. They ended the show with everyone playing "Take Me To The River." The look on Pops Staples' face as Belew, Sharp and Bullock let loose with bizarro/angular guitar solos was priceless.

Crazy. Parts of this remind me of listening to one of those CD players that can fast forward through a track without the pitch going up. Great find.
